The Aussie Millions Poker Championship

The Australian Poker Championship, more commonly known as The Aussie Millions is a series of poker tournaments held at the Crown Casino, in Melbourne, Australia. It is the Southern Hemisphere's richest poker tournament with a prize pool in excess of AU$7 Million and growing every year. The Aussie Millions Event at Melbourne’s Crown Casino was the culmination of the 16 individual events, which this year generated more than AUD$10 Million in total prize money.

Poker at Crown was introduced in June 1997, with the first major championship held just one year later in July of 1998. The Main Event was a AU$1,000 buy in Limit Hold’em tournament that attracted only 74 entries with a AU$74,000 prize pool. The ‘Aussie Millions’ is now run every January and in 2005, the Aussie Millions received a huge boom with 263 participants paying AU$10,000 each to enter the No Limit Hold’em Main Event, generating a prize pool of AU$2,630,000, the biggest ever in the Southern Hemisphere. Over half the field was from overseas, with players from New Zealand, England, Ireland, Norway, Denmark, USA, Sweden, Holland, Canada, Italy and Lebanon. Most of whom qualified via internet satellites, and ever since, the online satellites for the Aussie Millions have become some of the most popular with online players.

The 2008 championship concluded on Sunday 20th January, 2008 with the winner being the 21 year old Russian Alexander Kostritsyn. The buy-in was AU$10,500. A record 780 players entered, generating a prize pool of AU$7,800,000. The top 80 players were "in the money" and received between AU$15,000 and AU$1,650,000 each. The 2009 schedule is at the bottom of this page. For more information on the Crown Casino and its poker room, Click Here
